31 Days - Day #5 - A Picture of Somewhere You've Been

Hmmm...so many fun places to choose from? How about some pictures from my last vacation.

[Side note: I'm a picture lovin' person, so I'm totally not sticking with this 1 picture theme.]

Well, my favorite places to travel always involve the ocean! Last year my husband and I took a much needed, seriously overdue, weekend getaway and drove from our home in Idaho over to a beautiful little town called Pacifica, CA just south of San Franscisco.

It was a loooonnnngggg drive, but oh so worth it!!!! We were only there for 2 short days, but we made the most of it, and best of all, we couldn't have asked for more perfect weather!!!!

Our hotel was nestled right on the beach in the perfect little cove shown behind me.
My husband had never been to San Francisco, so we spent our first day seeing many of the major sites, including walking through Fisherman's Wharf.  (I was of course an expert, seeing as how I had only been there once myself).

Walking along the pier...

Seeing all the fun street performers, especially the world famous bush man!
Beautiful Coit Tower, esp. when it's all lit up at night.
We bought tickets ahead of time and enjoyed an Alcatraz Cruise!

Complete with the audio headset tour of the main prison.

We loved being able to pause the audio tour to take our time walking through each area, here in the rec yard.

Seriously, when can you luck out and find such sunny, warm-enough-for-shorts weather in San Francisco???
The second day we spent outside the city and drove to many of the other more natural sites in the area. Such as Pacifica Pier, which is the longest pier on the pacific coastline extending the furthest out into the Pacific Ocean.
The huge waves come rolling in as far as you can see while the pier is lined from end to end with serious crab fisherman.

A short trip north across the Golden Gate Bridge...
And you'll find yourself in some seriously gorgeous, heavily wooded areas near Muir Woods.
There's tons of very curvy coastal drives, and fun places to hike.
Fun creatures to spot along the way.
We also drove south of Pacifica and visited the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve Tide pools...
And walked along several beaches including Linda Mar Beach with San Pedro Rock.
A little too cold for a swim, but perfect for a peaceful (read kid-less) stroll.
With lots of fun creatures along the way.
I managed to grab this shot of our walk just seconds before the waves came rolling in and washed our footprints away.
As the sunset began we headed back to our hotel to change for dinner.
After all that driving and site seeing we were so happy to find a perfectly romantic spot for dinner at the restaurant right inside our hotel.
It was a short trip, but we made the most of every minute and had a wonderful time! I can't wait until the next time we get a chance to travel. With 4 kids we don't find many opportunities to get out of town, so that's one thing we're really looking forward to in the future! Tons of travel just like this!
